Upper arm lift
Upper arm lift
Upper arm lift or brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the underarm region to the elbow. Significant weight losses or natural ageing can cause upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance to restore through a localized lipoaspiration.
Preparing for upper arm lift
During the preoperative evaluation, the surgeon assesses skin quality, muscle tone and bone structure explaining aesthetic goals and achievable results. The pre-surgical assessment is a very important factor to exclude possible complications that could undermine the surgical outcome.
Upper arm lift procedure
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia. If loose skin is limited, a small incision is carried out along the axillary fold to remove the excess of skin and / or fat, smoothing and reshaping the contour of the arm. On the other hand, if loose skin is vaster, the incision occurs along the outer margin of the arms where scars tend to be slightly more noticeable. The average duration of this procedure is about one hour. Upper arm lift requires an overnight hospitalization and a medical compression garment to wear for a week.
Postoperative care instructions
Patients can move their arms right away; however, it is advisable a couple of days of complete rest at home. Within 3-4 days, they can restart a normal life. Sports can be resumed by one month after surgery for the areas of the trunk and arms affected by the intervention.
Scars in upper arm lift
Where loose skin is vaster, the incision occurs along the outer margin of the arms where scars tend to be slightly more noticeable.
FAQ
Who undergoes upper arm lift?
Upper arm lift is required when the underside of the upper arms are sagging or appear loose and full due to excess skin and fat even as a result of significant weight loss.
Is there any age limit to undergo this type of plastic surgery?
There is no age limit to undergo brachioplasty as long as the skin is sufficiently elastic.
Is it possible to combine upper arm lift with other cosmetic procedures?
Upper arm lift can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as inner thigh lift, if there are no particular contraindications.
Are there risks and / or complications for this type of plastic surgery?
This surgery does not involve special risks if carried out by qualified surgeons who perform plastic surgery procedures in accredited facilities with the presence of an anaesthesiologist.
